This feature requires the Growth plan in Givy
Some merchants authorize order payments at checkout, and only capture the payment once the order has been fulfilled and shipped to the customer.
This can cause issues if the order contains a gift card or gifted product, since Givy only creates gifts once the customer's payment has been captured. This is done to reduce fraud, and to ensure that merchants are collecting revenue before creating gift cards on their store.
Changing the Gift Creation Trigger
Merchants in this situation can decide that gift cards and gifts should be created before the order's payment has been fully captured. This is generally useful for merchants using the Shopify setting which partially captures payment when line items are fulfilled.
For merchants to capture payments as line items are fulfilled, go to Shopify Settings > Payments > Payment capture method and select the option Capture payment per fulfillment.
Note: this feature is only available to Plus merchants.
Next, in Givy, go to Settings > General and find the Gift Creation Trigger Event setting. Choose First line item fulfilled to create all gifts in an order before the full order is captured, and when the gift line items are fulfilled.
Now, when the digital gift card and gift line items are fulfilled, Givy will immediately create the gift cards and gifts, and all relevant notifications will be sent.
How do I fulfill the digital products?
Every merchant will do this according to their fulfillment process. Some ways we have seen include:
Third-party fulfillment / logistics provider automatically fulfills any digital products
Merchants create a Shopify Flow workflow to fulfill digital line items automatically
Are there any risks?
If you are a Plus merchant, and have selected to capture payments as line items are fulfilled, then the risks of this are quite low, since you are collecting payment before creating any gifts or gift cards.
For non-Plus merchants, this setting presents the risk that gift cards are created before payment has been captured. This means it's possible that a gift card is created, then the customer cancels their order or refuses payment before the full order has been fulfiflled.
