Prevent Gift Cards at Checkout

Givy can prevent gift cards from being used at checkout when the cart contains specific products.

Updated yesterday

There are many reasons why you might want to prevent gift cards from being used at checkout:

  • When customers are purchasing other gift cards

  • When certain promotional products are in the cart

  • When special or limited time items are in the cart

To do this, Givy offers you two settings to decide when gift cards should not be allowed as a payment method:

  • Prevent use of gift cards when the cart contains a gift card product

    • This will automatically hide the gift card option at checkout when any Givy gift card product is in the cart

  • Prevent use of gift cards when the cart contains specific products

    • This allows you to choose one or more product variants. If any of these variants are in the cart when checkout loads, the gift card payment method will be hidden

How it works

When customers load checkout, Givy checks to see if the cart contains a gift card product, or one of the products you configured. If it finds one, then the gift card payment option will no longer be available. Customers will still see the Discount code field, but Shopify will not accept gift cards as a payment method.
