Membership Gifting with Simplee Memberships

If you'd like to offer your membership products as gifts, follow this simple guide

Updated over a month ago

As a Simplee Memberships merchant, you've probably thought about allowing your customers to purchase memberships as gifts for their friends and family. Here's a quick guide on doing just that!

Step 1 - Simplee Memberships Configuration

IMPORTANT: Before enabling membership gifting, edit your membership product(s) in the Shopify admin, and uncheck the option that says "Only show this product with these purchase options"

Other than the important message above ☝️, there's nothing special you need to do in Simplee Memberships to enable gifting. When the app is installed, create at least one membership plan, which represents how you'd like to sell memberships, and make sure Simplee Memberships is configured on your live theme.

Step 2 - Givy Configuration

This step is also incredibly easy, and may already be enabled for your store. In Givy, go to Settings > Product Gifting and make sure Subscription Gifting is enabled.

  • One-time purchases - check this option to prevent customers from gifting the membership as a one-time purchase (which would not create the membership)

  • Default order count - decide how many orders should be gifted by default when customers choose to gift a membership

  • Subscription name display - if you find that the text describing subscription option in the Givy modal need to be changed, this is the text to change. In general, Simplee Memberships does not require any update to this value.

Step 3 - Test it Out!

For most merchants, that's all you need to do! We do recommend confirming that the gifting modal correctly shows recurring membership options on your store. We also strongly recommend going through the entire flow as a customer to better understand how everything works.

Optional Settings

Now that you have subscription gifting enabled, you may want to update the following settings:

  • Email Templates - whether you're using Givy's built-in emails, or using an email service provider's integration, you should make sure these have the correct messaging for your brand

  • Subscription-specific Language - our gifting modal and redemption page will now show additional text specific to subscription gifting. Check out the Storefront Assets > Redemption Page settings page to find language you may want to update before launching
